US airstrikes on Qeshm Island kill civilians, spark Tehran condemnation

The United States carried out a series of airstrikes across southern Iran on 30‑31 July 2026, targeting strategic sites such as Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, Kish, Abu Musa, Bushehr and Ahvaz. One of the strikes hit a residential building on Qeshm Island, killing three civilians – a father, his wife and their two‑year‑old child – and injuring two other children. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghei condemned the attack as a criminal act, while Iran’s Parliament speaker Muhammad Bakir Kalibaf warned that the United States will pay for the strike. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also warned of a hard retaliation against the United States and its allies. U.S. Central Command said the campaign hit dozens of Revolutionary Guard facilities, missile and UAV sites, and noted that more than 50 000 U.S. troops are deployed in the Middle East for the operation. Rescue teams on Qeshm worked to locate additional victims, reporting power outages and ongoing search for people trapped under rubble.
