Iranian political coalitions support nationwide strike call
Political coalitions, including the Federation of Iranian Nations and the Comprehensive Solidarity for Freedom and Equality in Iran, have issued a joint statement supporting a nationwide strike call scheduled for September 16 (25 Shahrivar).
The call aims to strengthen civil struggle and national solidarity, drawing on the history of general strikes in Kurdistan to challenge the current administration. Proponents view the strike as a collective expression of refusal against existing socio-economic conditions, including inflation, unemployment, and poverty, as well as intensified state repression.
Reflecting on the four-year anniversary of the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ movement, observers note that while street protests have transitioned into various forms of daily civil disobedience—such as the normalization of non-compulsory hijab—the movement faces significant challenges. These include legal, economic, and international pressures, alongside the lack of organized independent institutions to mitigate state crackdowns.
