Iranian poll finds 25% took part in December protests amid widespread regime dissatisfaction

The Dutch‑registered non‑profit research institute Gaman released a poll of 31,450 Iranians aged 15 and older, conducted online via circumvention tools between June 20‑27. About 25% of respondents – roughly 14 million people – said they had joined the nationwide December (Di) protests, while half reported no participation and a quarter declined to answer.

Respondents cited primary motives for protest participation: 71% expressed dissatisfaction with the Islamic Republic, 62% pointed to high prices, inflation and corruption, and 55% were influenced by the call of ex‑prince Reza Pahlavi. Smaller shares mentioned solidarity with market‑sector demonstrators (19%) and support for former U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments (10%).

On attitudes toward the ongoing 40‑day war, 42% characterised the U.S.–Israel attacks as a military invasion of Iran, 40% viewed them as humanitarian intervention, and the remainder were undecided. Six‑tenths of those surveyed welcomed a weakening of the regime in the context of the conflict, while 59% opposed Iran acquiring nuclear weapons and 51% believed the missile programme had not increased security risks.
