Iranian provinces aim to leverage heritage for economic growth
Officials in Lorestan and Alborz provinces are emphasizing the need to transform historical and natural heritage into economic assets through improved tourism and handicraft development.
In Lorestan, Saeed Pourali highlighted that sites such as Falak-ol-Aflak Castle, Bisheh and Nozhian waterfalls, and Ghehr Lake serve as valuable assets. He noted that proper planning and infrastructure are essential to turn these attractions into economic drivers. Pourali identified the commercialization of local handicrafts, such as woodcarving and felt-making, as a priority to create sustainable employment and connect local producers to national markets.
In Alborz, Nader Zeinali discussed the importance of Karaj’s historical identity, citing landmarks like Solimanieh Palace and Khatoon Bridge. He argued that cultural tourism must bridge the gap between historical preservation and local economic benefits. Zeinali emphasized that professional promotion, content creation, and supporting traditional artisans are necessary to ensure that cultural heritage contributes to the region's modern economic landscape.
