Iranian Kurdistan: 62 Kurdish citizens detained in one month
According to data released by Kurdpaw, at least 62 Kurdish citizens in Iranian Kurdistan were detained by security agencies over the past month, spanning from early July to early August.
The detentions were part of a wave of arrests occurring across 15 different cities. In many instances, security forces raided homes or workplaces without presenting legal evidence. Most of those detained were transferred to undisclosed locations, and information regarding the fate or current whereabouts of many remains unavailable.
The reported detainees include five women and two minors under the age of 18. The individuals arrested represent various sectors of society, including former political prisoners, civil and environmental activists, members of families of political dissidents, artists, and media activists.
Specific cities with high numbers of recorded detentions include Bukan with nine people, Mahabad with eight, Mariwan with seven, and Piranshahr and Ilam with six each. Kurdpaw noted that due to the suppression of freedom of expression and the lack of independent media in Iran, the actual number of detainees is likely higher than the official figures recorded.
