Camp Buehring: Iranian strikes force U.S. troops to abandon Kuwait base

Newly released footage and soldier testimonies obtained by CBS News reveal the extent of Iranian attacks on Camp Buehring, a major U.S. military base in Kuwait, during the early stages of the conflict with Iran. The recordings, which have been authenticated via metadata and visual evidence, show drones and ballistic missiles striking the facility, causing significant damage to buildings and military equipment.

While the Pentagon’s ‘get off the X’ strategy had already dispersed the majority of the 7,000 troops stationed at the base to safer locations, approximately 100 soldiers remained to defend the installation. These personnel reported being repeatedly forced into bunkers and facing critical shortages of ammunition, including .50 caliber rounds and Patriot interceptors. Witnesses also described Iranian F-5 fighter jets flying extremely close to the base.

Following the intense strikes, the remaining troops were forced to abandon the base and establish improvised forward operating outposts in the Kuwaiti desert. No U.S. personnel were killed by enemy fire, though several were injured, including two who were struck by lightning during desert sandstorms. The Pentagon has declined to comment directly on the specific footage, instead referring to previous statements regarding troop dispersal.
