Iranian Sunni detainee Hamzeh Darvish beaten and moved to infirmary at Lakan Prison

Hamzeh Darvish, a Sunni inmate from Talesh serving a 10‑year‑plus sentence at Lakan Prison in Rasht, was violently assaulted by prison officials and soldiers after a verbal clash with the prison director. The beating was severe enough that fellow prisoners carried him on a stretcher to the prison infirmary. Since the incident, Darvish has had no contact with his family, and prison authorities have declined to provide information about his health or whereabouts.

The assault followed the release of an audio recording in which Darvish criticized the management of Gilan Province’s prison system and alleged mistreatment of detainees. His family says officials ordered the beating and later confiscated his personal belongings, hinting that he may be transferred to another facility. No official statement has been issued regarding his condition.
