Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei reported in critical condition
Israeli media outlets, citing sources inside Iran, say Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in an "extremely critical" state and has been rushed to a hospital. The reports add that his condition could deteriorate further and that officials would not be surprised to hear news of his martyrdom soon.
Khamenei assumed the role of Supreme Leader after his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in joint U.S.–Israeli strikes on 28 February 2026. Since taking office he has made no public appearances, communicating only through written statements. President Masoud Pezeshkian told state TV that direct interaction with the leader is currently "very difficult".
Iranian authorities have not confirmed any details about his health, and the claims remain unverified. The situation raises questions about the stability of Iran's leadership and could have regional political repercussions.
