Iranians Face Deep Anxiety as U.S. Strikes Intensify

New waves of U.S. attacks on Iran have pushed ordinary Iranians into heightened uncertainty and economic distress. Interviewees told Reuters that soaring inflation, a collapsing rial and frequent internet outages have made daily life increasingly difficult. Photographer Somayeh said, "The most important thing overall in the middle of the war is the economy. Everyday our situation is worse and more difficult," while software engineer Amir described crippling debt and loss of remote‑work income after repeated internet cuts.

Many respondents said they have abandoned plans to leave the country despite the danger, fearing both the war and the cost of exile. Psychotherapist Nazanin explained that the devaluation of the currency makes a move to Turkey unaffordable, and others warned that continued hardship could spark street unrest. The civilian toll is compounded by past repression of protests, arrests and executions, leaving families to cope with the threat of airstrikes and the prospect of more casualties.
