Iran’s Araghchi rejects Jordan’s account of retaliatory strikes

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has rejected claims made by Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi regarding the timing of Iran’s military response to United States aggression. Safadi had characterized Tehran’s actions as a ‘premeditated policy,’ alleging that Iran launched attacks against Jordan and other regional nations only two hours after the start of a US military campaign.

Araghchi challenged this characterization, questioning how long Iran was expected to wait before responding to an aggressor that violates both Iranian and Arab sovereignty. He further accused regional actors of complicity, noting that Arab airspace, lands, and waters were utilized during the initial American strikes.

The diplomatic tension follows US military strikes in southern Iran on September 1. One such strike in Hormozgan province hit a residential building in Kouhestak during a wedding celebration, resulting in dozens of civilian casualties, including children and women.
