Iran declares U.S. negotiations meaningless amid rising regional tensions

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has declared that negotiations with the United States are “meaningless,” citing repeated military attacks following diplomatic discussions. Pezeshkian stated that Tehran has faced three separate attacks after engaging in talks, which he argues demonstrates a lack of genuine interest in dialogue from Washington. He further accused the U.S. of using assassinations, sanctions, and economic pressure to undermine the Islamic Republic.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reinforced this stance, asserting that there is no military solution to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, nor can it be resolved through new sanctions. Araghchi warned that if enemies choose military confrontation again, Iran’s response will be even more forceful.

Tensions remain high regarding the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy transit point. Iran has proposed seven conditions for reopening the strait, including the lifting of U.S. sanctions and the cessation of hostilities. Meanwhile, maritime security remains a concern following reports of a tanker being struck by an unknown projectile in the strait, causing engine room damage. In response to potential threats, the United States has deployed Patriot missile systems to Saudi Arabia and Qatar to protect energy infrastructure.
