Iran's Ghalibaf claims military threats forced U.S. to lift blockade
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Iran’s threats of military escalation forced the United States to lift a blockade immediately, rather than waiting the 30 days previously agreed upon in negotiations.
Ghalibaf revealed that following a recent attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut, he halted negotiations and warned that Iran would strike Israel that same night, adding that any retaliation would expand the conflict to the entire region. He noted that this stance resulted in the immediate lifting of the blockade.
Additionally, Ghalibaf addressed tensions regarding the Strait of Hormuz. He claimed that Iran threatened military action if U.S. President Donald Trump did not correct a post regarding the status of the Strait, which reportedly forced the President to amend his statement.
