Iran's Parliament official defends Ghalibaf's Iraq visit

Abulfazl Amoei, the assistant to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament for international affairs, has dismissed claims regarding Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf’s recent visit to Iraq. Amoei denied allegations that Ghalibaf used a distorted name for the Persian Gulf during his trip, asserting that the Speaker emphasized the historical name of the Persian Gulf during meetings.

Amoei suggested that recent controversies are part of a coordinated effort to undermine the strengthening ties between Iran and Iraq following the funeral ceremonies of the late revolutionary leader. He noted that the growing closeness between the two nations has effectively defeated projects pursued by certain Arab governments to create distance between them.

Furthermore, Amoei highlighted the positive social media response in Iraq, where the hashtag ‘Our brotherhood is our strength’ became a trend, signaling increased public support for bilateral relations. He warned that certain statements by the Iraqi Parliament Speaker could inadvertently harm Islamic unity and serve the interests of common enemies.
