Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Hamenei to be buried in Mashhad in July

Iranian state media announced that the funeral of assassinated Supreme Leader Ali Hamenei will be held between July 4 and July 9, 2026. Memorial services will begin in Tehran, a procession will move through the holy city of Kom, and the final burial is scheduled for July 9 at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad.

Hamenei was killed in a joint United States‑Israel strike at the end of February. His son, Mojtaba Hamenei, has been appointed as the new Supreme Leader. Pakistani mediators reported that negotiations between Washington and Tehran on a cease‑fire are close to completion, with an electronic signing expected this week and technical talks to follow next week.
