Irapuato and Tepatitlán coordinate on regional passenger rail projects

Regional authorities are coordinating efforts for the development of passenger rail projects connecting Irapuato, Querétaro, and Guadalajara. In Irapuato, Mayor Lorena Alfaro García has proposed that the Querétaro-Irapuato rail line be constructed as a viaduct to minimize urban disruption and better integrate the infrastructure with the city's growth.

Federal authorities have requested municipal cooperation to manage indemnification payments for land affected by the rail route. While a preliminary route exists, officials noted it remains subject to modification as the project progresses. The project is expected to eventually expand to connect Irapuato with León and Guadalajara.

In Tepatitlán, the local council has unanimously approved measures to support the Irapuato-Guadalajara rail project. This includes a provision to exempt the project from municipal taxes and fees throughout 2026 to facilitate the liberation of the right-of-way. This coordination involves multiple municipalities and state and federal governments to manage the costs and logistics of the rail corridor.
