Irapuato celebrates Mexican traditions with cultural festivals

Irapuato is preparing for the tenth edition of ‘Reviviendo Tradiciones: Entre Altares 2026’, a cultural festival organized by the local government through the Institute of Culture and Tourism (ICULTUR). The event aims to honor Mexican traditions and the memory of the deceased through various artistic expressions and family activities.

Key scheduled events include the ‘Camino al Mictlán’ parade on October 27, the creation of sand tapestries in Plaza Fundadores on October 28, and an exhibition of altars on October 29. The latter will also feature a Catrina and Catrín catwalk and the lighting of a monumental altar dedicated to Roberto Rivero y Góngora. The festival will involve over 650 artists and 30 activities across 15 locations.

Separately, the city is hosting the Feria del Alfeñique. Despite initial concerns regarding weather conditions and a brief panic during the opening parade caused by rumored, but unconfirmed, gunfire, organizers report high attendance and a peaceful environment. Local vendors noted that, unlike previous years, the event has maintained a ‘saldo blanco’ (no incidents) regarding security and public order.
