Irapuato commemorates 53rd anniversary of 1973 flood

Authorities and citizens in Irapuato commemorated the 53rd anniversary of the great flood of 1973. The event, held in the city's historic center, focused on honoring collective memory and promoting a culture of prevention among local families.

As part of the ‘Irapuato Vive’ program, a photographic exhibition titled ‘Hay fechas que no se recuerdan; se llevan marcadas’ was inaugurated. The ceremony included the laying of white flowers at a commemorative column to honor those who lost their lives during the disaster. Mayor Lorena Alfaro García led the tribute, praising the solidarity and resilience shown by the community during the tragedy.

The commemoration also featured historical insights from researcher Jesús Arévalo Rosales and the distribution of literary works related to the event, such as ‘El barquito de Emiliano’ by Pedro Ortega Pérez.
