Irapuato expands LGBT gender‑identity assistance and arrests two vehicle‑theft suspects

The Irapuato municipal government announced that its Diversity Sexual and Gender Unit, led by Evera Vica Chávez, will continue to accompany LGBT+ residents through the administrative process for gender‑identity recognition. The unit, created under the municipal organic regulation, aims to simplify paperwork after the December 2024 reform of the Guanajuato Civil Code that removed the need for court proceedings. Chávez said the process should be "accessible and without disproportionate burdens" and highlighted cooperation with the civil association Diversidad de Guanajuato Bajío, the State Human Rights Secretariat and the Civil Registry.

Separately, the Irapuato Municipal Police’s Grupo Pegaso detained two men, identified as 29‑year‑old Omar and 27‑year‑old Gustavo, on suspicion of involvement in vehicle “cristalazo” thefts. During a preventive inspection of a suspicious orange Jeep, officers seized three packages of alleged crystal drug from each suspect and confiscated the vehicle. The detainees were placed in custody pending further legal action.
