Irapuato official reports series of vehicle smash-and-grabs

Ignacio Morales Rojas, a city council member and member of the security commission in Irapuato, has denounced a series of vehicle smash-and-grab thefts occurring in the Prolongación Guerrero restaurant district. During a social media broadcast, Morales Rojas displayed glass fragments scattered along the sidewalk, identifying at least four separate incidents of broken windows within a short distance.

The thefts reportedly took place near the Las Plazas neighborhood. Morales Rojas noted that while official crime indices may have improved, these recurring incidents contribute to a high perception of insecurity among residents and visitors in this highly commercial area. He also expressed concern regarding the lack of formal complaints, which he suggests leads to an underreporting of crime in official statistics.

Local business owners have been suggested to consider private security measures to supplement local police presence, as the commercial zone has been a target for such criminal activity for several years.
