Iraq aims to restore oil output to pre‑war levels within two months

Iraq’s oil ministry said the country expects to lift crude production back above three million barrels per day within one to two months, after a sharp decline caused by the US‑Israeli war against Iran. Production fell from roughly 3.5 million bpd before the conflict to about 1.3 million bpd, and exports were choked off as the Strait of Hormuz was closed.

A recent agreement between Washington and Tehran to end hostilities has allowed restoration work to accelerate, with fields that had reduced output already ramping up. Iraqi officials said exports will recover gradually as shipping through the Hormuz Strait resumes. Chinese oil firms remain active on several sites, and the country hopes to return to pre‑war revenue levels, which account for about 90 % of its national income.
