Iraq and Iran discuss Saudi Arabia attack and Strait of Hormuz

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held discussions regarding a recent attack targeting Saudi Arabia. The talks addressed the investigation process and measures taken following the incident, which Saudi Arabia has linked to territory within Iraq.

The officials also discussed border management and the closure of certain border crossings. Additionally, both sides addressed regional stability, specifically the situation in Yemen, emphasizing the need for dialogue and negotiation to reduce tensions.

Regarding maritime security, Iraq confirmed its participation in an upcoming meeting in Oman involving eight neighboring countries, including the Gulf Cooperation Council members, Iraq, and Iran, to discuss issues related to the Strait of Hormuz. Reports indicate an Iranian-Omani understanding has been reached regarding new navigation routes through the Strait, with certain paths remaining within Iranian territorial waters.
