Iraq and Jordan discuss establishing a free trade zone
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zidi and Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan met in Amman to discuss strengthening bilateral relations, specifically in the sectors of energy, economy, investment, and security. A key proposal discussed during the meeting was the establishment of a free trade zone between the two nations to increase commercial exchange and mutual connectivity.
During the visit, Iraq and Jordan signed nine agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation across various fields, including competition and anti-monopoly measures, consumer protection, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, higher education, scientific research, and environmental protection.
The discussions also addressed regional developments, with both leaders emphasizing the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the importance of supporting diplomatic efforts to resolve regional conflicts. The economic partnership is further supported by the Jordan-Iraq Economic City project located at the Trebil and Karameh border crossings.
