Iraq and US discuss strengthening legal and judicial cooperation

Faiq Zidan, President of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, met with US Presidential Envoy to Iraq Tom Barrack in Baghdad to discuss strengthening legal and judicial cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting follows recent discussions in Istanbul between Barrack and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein regarding the future of bilateral relations. This diplomatic shift occurs as the International Coalition's mission to combat ISIS officially concluded on September 30, marking a transition from a multilateral framework to direct bilateral cooperation.

Previous discussions between Zidan and Barrack have addressed judicial procedures for detainees transferred from Syrian prisons to Iraq, as well as the role of the Iraqi judiciary in constitutional processes. Broader discussions involving the Iraqi Foreign Ministry have also touched upon Iraq's economic situation, the exchange rate of the dinar, and the impact of regional conflicts on security and stability.
