Iraq approves funding for Al-Jamima border crossing with Saudi Arabia
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi has approved funding for the construction of facilities and buildings at the Al-Jamima border crossing. The project aims to strengthen economic and trade ties between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, with an expected opening in 2027.
Located in the Al-Muthanna Governorate, the development includes rehabilitating the highway connecting the city of Samawah to the Saudi border. Tawfiq Al-Hassani, the Governor of Al-Muthanna, stated that the infrastructure will stimulate commercial activity, support the local economy, and allow the governorate to benefit from border revenues.
The Al-Jamima crossing, historically a significant pilgrimage route, is part of a broader Iraqi strategy to enhance regional cooperation through trade, energy, and transport links with neighboring countries, including Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Syria.
