Iraq closes Shalamcheh and Chazzabeh borders with Iran

The border crossings of Shalamcheh and Chazzabeh between Iraq and Iran have been closed to all goods and passenger traffic until further notice. Additionally, Basra International Airport has suspended all flights between the two countries.

These closures follow the dismissal of the operations commander in Maysan Province by the Iraqi Prime Minister's office. This administrative move comes after investigations confirmed that drone attacks targeting oil pipelines in eastern and western Saudi Arabia originated from within Maysan Province. While the specific reasons for the border and flight suspensions have not been officially declared, the developments coincide with regional tensions regarding drone strikes on Saudi oil infrastructure.

In contrast to the closures at Shalamcheh and Chazzabeh, the Mehran border remains operational. Local officials in Mehran have denied rumors of its closure, reporting that 17,000 movements were recorded in the previous 24 hours and that commercial and pilgrim activities continue without interruption.
