Iraq denies Houthi presence and coordinates with Turkey and Iran on militants
Iraqi government spokesperson Haider al-Aboudi has denied reports regarding the existence of Houthi headquarters within Iraq, dismissing such claims as social media narratives that lack factual basis. He emphasized that hosting armed groups from other countries contradicts constitutional principles and stated that Iraq will not allow its territory to be used to threaten neighboring nations.
Al-Aboudi also confirmed ongoing coordination with Turkey to resolve the issue of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) elements and their removal from the country. Additionally, Iraq is working with Iran through a high committee to address the presence of Iranian Kurdish militants, particularly within the Kurdistan Region.
Regarding border operations, the spokesperson explained that the closure of the Al-Shayb border crossing was a measure to improve its technical, logistical, and developmental readiness. He noted that trade with Iran continues smoothly through other border crossings.
