Iraq dismantles major real estate forgery network in Al-Muthanna
The Iraqi National Security Service has dismantled a large-scale criminal network involved in widespread land and real estate forgery in the Al-Muthanna Governorate. The operation resulted in the arrest of 61 individuals, including government employees, lawyers, and real estate agents.
Investigations revealed more than 90 forged transactions and documents related to land plots and real estate registration. The fraudulent activities led to an estimated loss of approximately 2 billion Iraqi dinars, or roughly $1.5 million, in public funds. The operation was conducted following intensive intelligence and field efforts under judicial supervision.
This crackdown is part of a broader national campaign against financial and administrative corruption within Iraqi state institutions. Recent high-profile investigations have also targeted the oil sector, involving the seizure of significant sums of money and the investigation of former officials.
