Iraq issues arrest warrant for former Labor Minister over corruption

An Iraqi court has issued an arrest and search warrant for Ahmed Jassim Saber al-Asadi, the former Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, on charges of illicit enrichment. The investigation, led by the Central Corruption Combatting Criminal Court, alleges that al-Asadi failed to prove the legal origins of his wealth.

In a related development, the judiciary has requested the Iraqi Parliament to lift the immunity of Member of Parliament Nazim Mohammed Duvayic al-Asadi. The request is based on allegations that the MP conspired with the former minister to establish a shell company, 'et-Tedamul General Trading, Information Technology and General Contracting Limited,' specifically to secure lucrative ministry contracts.

Court documents state that the company signed two contracts with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs on January 15 and November 19, 2025. Additionally, the company reportedly operated a recruitment bureau that facilitated the irregular entry of large numbers of foreign workers into Iraq in violation of regulations.
