Iraq leadership meets to discuss disarmament and economic crisis

The four presidencies of Iraq, including Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi, Speaker of Parliament Hebat al-Halbousi, President Nizar Amidi, and Head of the Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zaidan, are convening to address several critical national issues.

A primary focus of the meeting is the restriction of weapons and determining measures to confront factions that fail to disarm by the September 30 deadline. This deadline aims to limit weaponry to official state institutions. Additionally, leaders will discuss the ongoing fight against corruption, emphasizing that no political or governmental position provides immunity from prosecution.

The meeting will also address a serious economic and financial crisis resulting from the halt of Iraqi oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz. This comes amid a broader transition in Iraq's security relationship with the United States, following an agreement to end the US-led international coalition mission against ISIS and move toward a bilateral partnership.
