Iraq: PM al-Zaidi implements media discipline and lifts airspace restrictions

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi is implementing several administrative and security measures to stabilize the country. To improve government credibility and reduce conflicting official statements, al-Zaidi has issued a decision prohibiting advisors and officials from making media statements without prior authorization.

Simultaneously, the Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced the lifting of airspace restrictions in western Iraq. All areas previously reserved for military operations—which had been restricted since 2016 due to combat against ISIS—are being handed over to civil aviation authorities. This transition, expected to be technically complete by October 1, aims to allow for new flight paths, improve air navigation efficiency, and boost national economic revenue as international coalition forces withdraw.

Politically, al-Zaidi continues to manage complex security and administrative files, attempting to balance the interests of various political factions and armed groups while prioritizing competence and integrity in government appointments over sectarian or partisan quotas.
