Iraq prepares to host OIC Foreign Ministers meeting in Baghdad

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani met with Mohammed al-Naqshbandi, the Director of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) office in Iraq, to discuss preparations for hosting the 52nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

The meeting, held in Baghdad, focused on the upcoming summit scheduled for October 17–18, 2026. This event marks the first time such meetings have returned to Baghdad since 1981. Al-Sudani emphasized that hosting the summit is a national responsibility that enhances Iraq's regional and international standing.

During the discussions, the Prime Minister called for coordinated Islamic action to protect civilians, respect state sovereignty, and reduce regional escalation to promote security and stability. Al-Sudani also extended congratulations to the new OIC Secretary-General, Ismail Mohamed Ahmed.
