Iraq Prime Minister Delays Saudi Visit After Riyadh Airstrike on Shia Militia

Saudi Arabia carried out airstrikes on Shia militia positions inside Iraq, killing at least 20 fighters and wounding 32. In response, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al‑Sudani postponed his planned trip to Riyadh, which had been scheduled for July 30, and convened an emergency meeting of the national security council.

Earlier in the week, Iran launched a missile attack on U.S. forces stationed in Jordan. Former President Donald Trump said the United States would “hit them hard.” U.S. Central Command reported that all missiles were intercepted. The United States and Saudi Arabia also conducted coordinated precision strikes in Iraq against Iran‑backed militia targets, actions that were carried out with the approval of the Iraqi government.
