Iraq security officials reorganize military and police roles

Lieutenant General Abdul Amir al-Shammari, Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has chaired security meetings to reorganize and redistribute responsibilities among Iraq's security and military institutions. The meetings aim to enhance coordination between the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Defense, and the Popular Mobilization Forces to support stability across various provinces.

In one session, discussions focused on provinces including Diyala, Kirkuk, Salah al-Din, and Samarra. Key topics included the mechanisms for transferring security checkpoints to the Ministry of Interior and the withdrawal of army and Popular Mobilization Forces from urban centers to ensure smooth security operations.

In a separate session, the reorganization efforts extended to six additional provinces: Dhi Qar, Muthanna, Al-Diwaniyah, Najaf, Wasit, and Babylon. These meetings specifically addressed provinces where the Ministry of Interior is set to take full responsibility for the security file. The initiative is part of a broader strategic move toward institutionalizing security work and unifying responsibilities to strengthen the Ministry of Interior's role in managing domestic security.
