Iraq: Sinjar Resistance Units to hand over weapons to government

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi announced that the Sinjar Resistance Units will soon hand over their weapons to the Iraqi government. This move aims to place Mount Sinjar under the full control of the federal government, its security institutions, and administrative bodies to ensure stability and protect local residents.

Al-Zaidi emphasized that monopolizing the use of weapons within the state and unifying security decision-making are essential to ending the existence of multiple security centers. To support this transition, the government has pledged to guarantee the rights of the Sinjar Resistance Units and their female units. Qualified individuals will be integrated into official Iraqi security institutions through formal legal mechanisms.

In addition to security measures, the Prime Minister ordered that the Yazidi community be included in a housing program involving one million residential land plots to facilitate the return of displaced persons. He also directed the formation of a high-level committee to conduct a comprehensive study of the security and service needs in Sinjar to ensure the district does not become an arena for conflict.
