Iraq begins trial of six French Islamic State suspects
An Iraqi court in Baghdad has commenced the trial of six French nationals accused of belonging to the Islamic State. The presiding judge has adjourned the hearing until October 5 to allow legal counsel time to review the case files.
This trial follows previous legal actions in Iraq involving French citizens; in 2019, 11 French nationals were sentenced to death, though those sentences were later commuted to life imprisonment upon appeal.
