Iraq to host OIC Foreign Ministers Council in Baghdad

Baghdad is preparing to host the 52nd session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers on October 17 and 18, 2026. This marks the first time Iraq has hosted such a meeting in approximately 45 years.

Under the theme ‘Dialogue and Solidarity are Essential Pillars for Promoting Peace and Sustainable Development,’ the summit will see the presidency of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers officially transfer from Turkey to Iraq. Ambassador Hasanein Kamil, the official spokesperson for the session, stated that Iraq has completed all technical and logistical preparations to receive official delegations.

The agenda will prioritize the Palestinian cause and the political and humanitarian developments in the Gaza Strip. Discussions will also cover various political, economic, and humanitarian files of mutual interest to member states, aiming to reduce regional tensions and strengthen multilateral diplomacy.
