Iraq transfers Kirkuk oil field operations to joint entity with BP

Iraq is restructuring the management of its Kirkuk oil fields to boost production and export capacity. The Ministry of Oil has transferred operational management of the four Kirkuk fields—Kirkuk, Bai Hassan, Khabbaz, and Jambur—to a Joint Operating Entity in partnership with the British company BP.

This strategic move aims to increase oil production in the province to 450,000 barrels per day and invest approximately 500 million standard cubic feet of associated gas daily. The project is expected to include technology transfer, staff training, and community service projects for local residents.

Separately, Iraq's crude oil exports have reached approximately 2.7 million barrels per day. The Ministry of Oil is working to increase these volumes by utilizing northern and southern outlets. Current efforts include aiming to reach the minimum capacity of 750,000 barrels per day via the Iraq-Turkey pipeline and exploring new pipeline projects, such as the Basra–Haditha–Faysh Khabur route.
