Iraq, UAE, and Saudi Arabia discuss regional stability and conflict resolution
Foreign ministers from Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia held high-level discussions on Sunday to address escalating regional tensions and promote stability through dialogue.
In a phone call, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed emphasized the necessity of avoiding escalation and resolving conflicts through peaceful negotiations. Hussein noted that the Iraqi government, led by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi, is committed to supporting regional security and prioritizing diplomatic solutions. These talks follow reports of drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline, which Riyadh claimed originated from Iraqi territory; in response, Baghdad stated it is taking measures to prevent its land from being used to threaten neighbors.
Separately, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and Abdullah bin Zayed discussed the importance of unifying positions and enhancing Gulf cooperation to contain rapid regional developments. The discussions also touched upon the security situation in Yemen, where military activity between government forces and Houthi rebels has raised concerns regarding maritime security near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
