Iraqi Air Force reports no international coalition aerial missions since 2026

Iraqi Air Force Commander Khalid al-Tamimi stated that the international coalition has not conducted any aerial missions within Iraqi territory since the beginning of 2026. He noted that current Iraqi Air Force operations are independent and do not receive direct support from the coalition.

Al-Tamimi highlighted advancements in domestic military capabilities, including the development of an integrated system of workshops and warehouses for aircraft maintenance. While Iraqi personnel perform most maintenance on F-16 fighter jets, certain engine repairs are still referred to the American company Pratt & Whitney. Additionally, negotiations are underway to acquire an initial batch of 14 Rafale fighter jets.

Regarding national security, the Commander reported that air defense systems provide comprehensive radar coverage across Iraq, with daily aerial reconnaissance conducted throughout the country. He described the current threat from terrorist sleeper cells in remote areas as very limited due to increased vigilance and improved military capabilities.
