Iraqi Parliament passes notary law amendment and reviews new bills

The Iraqi Parliament has passed several legislative amendments and concluded initial readings for multiple new laws during recent sessions. In a session led by Speaker Heibat al-Halbousi, lawmakers voted to amend the Notary Law (No. 33 of 1998) to integrate electronic transactions and modern technical developments into notary work.

Additionally, the Parliament completed the first reading of several significant bills, including:

• A juvenile care law aimed at preventing delinquency and aligning Iraq's criminal policy with international human rights standards. • A securities and commodities law intended to regulate Iraq's financial markets and establish their legal framework. • An intellectual property law to protect creators and prevent unfair competition. • A security cooperation agreement between Iraq and Spain to combat crime.

Other legislative activities included an amendment to the Ownership Law to better align job titles with academic qualifications and a discussion regarding joining the International Solar Alliance.
