Iraqi Prime Minister Al-Zaydi to visit the United States

Iraqi Prime Minister Al-Zaydi is scheduled to visit the United States in the coming days, marking his second trip since taking office in mid-May. The visit coincides with Al-Zaydi's participation in the United Nations General Assembly.

The trip occurs at a critical juncture regarding arms control. The Iraqi government has set a September 30 deadline for the disarmament of armed groups, a mandate that some groups have so far resisted. Al-Zaydi has stated that after this date, no entity will be permitted to carry weapons outside of the state framework. This deadline also aligns with the expiration of the international coalition's mission in Iraq.

During the visit, Al-Zaydi is expected to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump and other world leaders. Discussions are anticipated to focus heavily on weapons control and the transition of Iraq-U.S. relations toward long-term economic cooperation. Al-Zaydi will also participate in a meeting at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to maintain commercial ties between the two nations.
