Iraqi resistance group rejects disarmament and vows support for Lebanon
The Iraqi resistance group Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada has rejected calls for disarmament, vowing to maintain its weapons and continue providing support to resistance fighters in Lebanon. Sheikh Kazem al-Fartousi, a spokesman for the group—which is part of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) coalition—stated that pressure would not deter the group from its current path.
This defiance comes as the Iraqi government, led by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, attempts to implement a plan to establish a state monopoly over weapons following pressure from the United States. Additionally, security officials from Kataib Hezbollah, another PMU member, have signaled support for the eventual expulsion of US-led forces from Iraq and warned of potential retaliatory actions, such as closing border crossings, if US restrictions on Iranian aviation persist.
