Iraqi security delegation arrives in Riyadh for high-level talks

A high-level Iraqi security delegation arrived in Riyadh on Thursday to discuss bilateral security issues and regional stability. Led by Lieutenant General Abdul Amir al-Shammari, the head of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the delegation includes the heads of Iraqi intelligence, air defense, and counter-terrorism agencies.

The talks focus on addressing recent security incidents, specifically drone attacks targeting Saudi energy facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh, which Saudi authorities alleged originated from Iraqi territory. The visit aims to enhance military and defense coordination and resolve tensions following recent military strikes in Iraq.

Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman met with the delegation to review military relations and regional developments. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia views Iraq as a “dear neighbor” and remains committed to supporting Iraq’s security, stability, and prosperity. Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has reiterated Baghdad’s commitment to ensuring Iraqi territory is not used as a launchpad for attacks against neighboring countries.
