Azerbaijan and Iran plan expanded green tourism cooperation

In an interview, a senior official of Iran’s Ministry of Culture, Handicrafts and Tourism highlighted the extensive experience both Iran and Azerbaijan have in sustainable and green tourism. He said the two countries can share best practices and jointly develop initiatives such as improved rail links, increased air connections, and simplified travel procedures to boost eco‑tourism.

Key areas for collaboration include the Caspian Sea corridor, the shared Hirkan forests, historic caravan routes, and the use of regional trade corridors for tourism. The official noted Azerbaijan’s recent hosting of COP‑29 and the World Urban Forum (WUF) in Baku as evidence of its growing commitment to green tourism, while urging both governments to strengthen infrastructure and adopt greener practices across the sector.
