Ireen Navicha departs for Miss World pageant in Vietnam

Miss Malawi First Princess Ireen Navicha has departed for Vietnam to compete in the 73rd Miss World pageant, which runs from August 8 to September 5. Before her departure from Kamuzu International Airport, Navicha addressed recent social media controversy regarding her selection, stating, “My mental well-being is okay and I’m ready to carry our flag.”

Navicha expressed that her pageant journey is driven by a purpose to educate and support girls affected by early marriages and teen pregnancies. She also intends to use the international platform to promote Malawi's tourism, specifically mentioning Lake Malawi and Mulanje Mountain.

Bernardette Mweso, CEO of the Miss Malawi Organisation, noted that preparations have been difficult as the country has lacked recent representation in the competition. While local designers and individuals have provided support, the organization is still appealing for approximately K5 million to fund the full delegation traveling to Vietnam.
