Ireland authorities denounce TikTok ‘joyriding’ trend

Irish authorities are denouncing a dangerous trend on TikTok known as ‘joyriding,’ where teenagers steal vehicles to film high-speed driving for social media validation. The practice involves driving stolen cars at extreme speeds to gain ‘likes’ and adrenaline, rather than for resale.

Irish Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan has called on TikTok to take responsibility for removing content that glorifies criminal behavior. The outcry follows a fatal incident where five adolescents died after driving the wrong way on a highway and colliding head-on with a family traveling to Dublin Airport. Investigators suspect the youths may be linked to the ‘Lucky Dip’ gang, a group of minors aged 14 to 17 involved in vehicle thefts.
