Ireland secured a 40-27 victory over South Africa in the first of two WXV Global Series matches held at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. This fixture marked only the second time the two nations have met in 20 years.

Tries for the Irish side were scored by Aoife Dalton, Linda Djougang (who scored twice), Beibhinn Parsons, Jane Clohessy, and Erin King. Dannah O’Brien provided critical support through five successful conversions.

South Africa responded with tries from Aseza Hele, Vainah Ubisi, Lerato Makua, and Alichia Arries. Although the Springboks briefly led 12-5 in the first half, Ireland dominated the second period to pull ahead. The two teams are scheduled to meet again at the same venue next Saturday to conclude the series.
