Ireland deportes six convicted men to Nigeria

Six Nigerian nationals convicted of criminal offences in Ireland were deported in a chartered‑flight operation on 28 July 2026. The Garda National Immigration Bureau carried out the removal, assisted by the Department of Justice and the Irish Prison Service. The flight departed Dublin, made a stop in Rome and then continued to Nigeria. Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan said the operation demonstrated the government’s commitment to enforcing immigration law and removing people with no legal right to remain in the state. The charter flight from Dublin cost more than €76,000, though the total expense of the operation has not yet been finalised. Throughout the process the men were escorted by Garda members, medical personnel, an interpreter and an independent human‑rights observer.
