Ireland Fuel Allowance scheme expands to over 465,000 households

The winter Fuel Allowance scheme has commenced, providing heating cost support to over 465,000 households across Ireland. The payment has increased by €5, bringing the weekly rate to €38. Alternatively, recipients can opt for two lump-sum installments of €532 each.

Following an expansion of the scheme, more than 50,000 families receiving the Working Family Payment now automatically qualify for the allowance. In Dublin alone, approximately 101,300 households are expected to benefit from the support.

The allowance will be distributed over a 28-week period, continuing through the winter and into the spring. Officials have encouraged citizens to check their eligibility through official channels, noting that there are approximately 21 social protection schemes that can serve as qualifying gateway payments for individuals under the age of 66.
