Ireland fuel prices rise in August with further increases expected

Fuel prices in Ireland saw a sharp increase in August, with diesel prices rising by an average of 19 cents per litre to €1.92 and petrol increasing by 9 cents to €1.84. According to AA Ireland, these rises were driven by wholesale market conditions rather than changes in excise duty, which remained unchanged during the month.

Further increases are expected starting September 1, as a phased restoration of excise duty begins. This will add approximately 9 cents to petrol and 10 cents to diesel per litre. Analysts suggest that if wholesale prices remain high, motorists may face continued price hikes throughout the autumn due to geopolitical uncertainty and international oil supply volatility.
